Post Title: Specialist Nurse, Bladder & Bowel UK
Hours:
Full time or part time; flexible hours considered
Salary:
Competitive, dependent on experience
Responsible to:
Service Manager, Bladder & Bowel UK
Location of Work:
The post holder’s base will be Disabled Living’s head office at Burrows House, with hybrid working available by agreement. Occasional travel throughout the UK will be required, which may involve overnight stays.
Start Date:
As soon as possible

Job Purpose: 
To contribute to the continuing development of Bladder & Bowel UK nationally, providing expert clinical information, advice, education and training on bladder and bowel health to the public, patients, carers and professionals. This will be achieved by:

  • Delivering an expert information and advice service to people with bladder and bowel health issues, their families and carers, and the professionals working with them.
  • Developing and delivering education and training content for health, social care and other professionals, patients and carers.
  • Developing accessible, clinically accurate information resources on bladder and bowel health, products and services.
  • Working with the Service Manager and wider clinical team to standardise clinical content and ways of working across the service.
  • Increasing public and professional awareness and understanding of bladder and bowel related issues.
  • Contributing towards team and service objectives.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. To provide expert information, advice and support through the confidential helpline, email and other enquiry channels.
  2. To develop and deliver education and training on bladder and bowel health to a diverse audience, including health and social care professionals, other organisations, patients and carers.
  3. To develop and produce information and training content, including written resources, webinars, e-learning and other digital materials, ensuring content is accurate, accessible and up to date.
  4. To work with the Service Manager and colleagues to help standardise clinical content, protocols and quality standards across the service.
  5. To help promote the work of Bladder & Bowel UK and bladder and bowel health nationally, contributing towards the writing of relevant information and articles for publication.
  6. To work collaboratively with other members of the Bladder & Bowel UK team and wider Disabled Living services.
  7. To keep up to date with, and be aware of, all relevant national clinical guidance and publications relating to bladder and bowel health.
  8. To be aware of and help identify income generation projects and training opportunities.
  9. To be able to work independently, including writing reports and completing other documentation as necessary.
  10. To be willing to travel to attend study days, meetings and exhibitions as appropriate — this may involve an overnight stay.
  11. This job description will be reviewed periodically to take into account changes and developments in service development. Any changes will be discussed fully with the post holder.

General Terms and Conditions of Employment

  • Holiday entitlement, 25 days (pro rata) annual leave rising to 28 days after 5 years continuous service.

Education and Training

  • Registered Nurse or other relevant clinical qualification (Essential)
  • Educated to degree level (Essential)
  • Undertaken continence promotion or relevant bladder/bowel health courses (Essential)

Experience

  • Experience working in a clinical setting as a bladder and bowel/continence specialist (Essential)
  • Good knowledge of bladder and bowel problems and related conditions (Essential)
  • Experience developing and delivering training to professionals, patients and carers (Essential)
  • Experience providing telephone or email advice and information (Essential)
  • Experience developing information or training content (Desirable)

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate sensitively and professionally with people at all levels (Essential)
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and manage a varied workload (Essential)
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team (Essential)
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills (Essential)

Other requirements
